About Us

First conceived in 2018, Danger Island Models is the brainchild of artist/sculptor, Jeff Wehenkel, and Steve Smith, a 40+ year veteran of the publishing industry, known in the hobby mainly as publisher and editor-in-chief of Monsterscene magazine. With a friendship spanning nearly 30 years, the pair decided to become business partners to create fantasy figure kits that they always wanted to own. Danger Island Models debuted to an enthusiastic audience at the Wonderfest USA Model Expo in Louisville, KY in June 2024.

When discussing common interests and goals, they agreed they wanted to reach out to one of their all-time favorite sculptors, industry legend, Mike Cusanelli, and invite him to do some pieces for them. Both had been fans and collectors of Mike’s kits from Solarwind, Soldat, and even of his pieces sculpted for G.I. Joe.

The company’s first three kits represented their personal interests. Mike’s first kit for Danger Island Models was a beautiful 1:6 scale figure of Caroline Munro as Margiana, Sinbad’s “Golden” girl. Jeff has been a collector and admirer of Mike’s Countess Karnstein series so they asked him to create a new addition to the Karnstein line. Mike delivered a gorgeous 1:5 scale standing pose of his creation on a crypt-style base.

The company’s third kit was an authorized tribute to the Aurora Monster Scenes model kits from 1971. Danger Island Models released a newly remastered version of the Tweeterhead sculpt of The Victim kit, but named her Dr. Deadly’s Daughter after the Canadian release of the original styrene kit. The Monster Scenes model kits were an important part of Jeff and Steve’s childhoods, and they plan to expand the line of tribute kits over the next several years.

The vision of Danger Island Models is to be known as a top-quality resin model kit company. Priding themselves on working with the best sculptors, and reputable casters whose quality is equal to the quality of the sculptures.

Welcome to Danger Island Models. GO TEAM DANGER!
